On March 14, 2009, Denton Area Paranormal Society and the Emily Fowler Library of Denton, Texas welcomed investigative reporter and author Jim Marrs to present a program on the Aurora UFO Crash of 1897 in Aurora, Texas:
"Mysterious Airship Sighted! Long before Roswell...'Mysterious Airships' were one of the greatest American mysteries. Before the Wright Brothers flew, in 1897, silent aircraft reportedly prowled the skies, shining down brilliant searchlights. On April 16th of 1897, one of these aerial wanderers was sighted over Denton. Then on April 17th, Aurora, Texas something went wrong; an airship lost altitude, collided with a windmill, and exploded in flames. The Dallas Morning News reported the dead 'spaceman' was buried in Aurora Cemetery at high noon the next day. For too long, this historic event - THE SMOKING GUN OF UFOLOGY - has been overlooked."
