Nine people have been arrested as part of an investigation into looting in west Dublin.
A Centra store in Jobstown was robbed, as was the Lidl supermarket in Fortunestown Lane.
The Lidl was also damaged by a digger, weakening the structure.
Dublin Fire Brigade sent units to respond to reports of a fire but none was found.
Gardaà remain at the store.
In a statement, Lidl said: ''We are aware of the very serious incident at our Fortunestown Lane store this evening.'' It said it was not in a position to comment further.
They added that the store was closed at the time and as a result no members of staff were injured.
Thugs tonight stole a JCB and ripped the roof off a Lidl supermarket.
