Over the past 2 years, Amtrak has collaborated with all of the major users and stakeholders of Washington Union Station to create a shared vision for the future of one of the world's greatest train stations. Already straining today from the growth of rail ridership, our vision is to simultaneously improve passengers' experience in the Station and expand its capacity to accommodate the growth ahead, all while supporting the development and reinvigoration of the surrounding neighborhoods. One of our most important collaborators has been Akridge who owns and will be developing the area above our tracks and platforms. In what has truly been a model of public-private partnership, we and Akridge have envisioned a development that embraces and enhances the future transportation and intermodal elements of our plan while providing significant benefits for the surrounding community. What you're about to see is our shared vision for that development and for the iconic Train Hall that will be a part of it. We believe this project can be a major economic development engine for the D.C. area and entire region as we create the necessary capacity for the expanded high speed, intercity and commuter train service required to support mobility in the Northeast.
