This talk is an anonymized, sanitized experience report, based on a real project of a Domain Language client. It tells the story of the emergence of a valuable tool for the business that bears very little resemblance to the original vision, yet addresses the core strategic issue that motivated the project.
An elegant and minimalist tool resulted from a messy and faltering, sometimes frustrating process. The greater part of the exploratory effort went into blind alleys. Broad research provided inspirations and some useful analysis clues, and more blind alleys. This was ultimately efficient.
Very specialized capabilities were distilled partly through heavy use of generic abstractions and established formalisms.
