hydrodynamic levitation
Bookmarked 462 weeks ago on a stream of water you can levitate light balls of all sizes and even disks and cylinders the mechanism is not the bernoulli effectwant to make this at home: my friend blake from innovinci emailed me with a cool idea for a video and footage of levitating balls in water streams initially it was tough to explain the physics of what was going on the standard bernoulli effect relies on the object being completely immersed in the upward-flowing fluid but in this case the water seems to form a single stream around the object and it039s deflected away and down from the stream by newton039s third law the force on the water by the ball is equal and opposite to the force of the water back on the ball pushing it up into the stream there is a stable equilibrium position because if the ball moves into the stream it quotcuts offquot the water going over the ball so it drifts out if it drifts out too far then lots of water passes over the ball pushing it back into the streamspecial thanks to |

uplifted - a waterlust short about archimedes039 principle
Bookmarked 530 weeks ago buoyancy forces are the result of archimedes039 principle which states that an object submersed in a fluid will experience and upward force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by that object this law of physics is especially important in the field of aqua therapy and allows patients with severe injuries to improve their strength without bearing their full weight music: quotlove is allquot by the tallest man on earthspecial thanks to amazing team at spaulding rehabilitation hospital for their supportlearn more at waterlustorg |

computational hydrographic printing siggraph 2015
Bookmarked 574 weeks ago by yizhong zhang chunji yin changxi zheng and kun zhoutechnical paper at acm siggraph 2015abstract:hydrographic printing is a well-known technique in industry for transferring color inks on a thin film to the surface of a manufactured 3d object it enables high-quality coloring of object surfaces and works with a wide range of materials but suffers from the inability to accurately register color texture to complex surface geometries thus it is hardly usable by ordinary users with customized shapes and textureswe present computational hydrographic printing a new method that inherits the versatility of traditional hydrographic printing while also enabling precise alignment of surface textures to possibly complex 3d surfaces in particular we propose the first computational model for simulating hydrographic printing pro- cess this simulation enables us to compute a color image to feed into our hydrographic system for precise texture registration we then build a physical hydrographic system upon off-the-shelf hardware integrating virtual simulation object calibration and controlled immersion to overcome the difficulty of handling complex surfaces we further extend our method to enable multiple immersions each with a different object orientation so the combined colors of individual immersions form a desired texture on the object surface we validate the accuracy of our computational model through physical experiments and demonstrate the efficacy and robustness of our system using a variety of objects with complex surface textures |

nasa create biocapsule implant 2012
Bookmarked 743 weeks ago there are no hospitals in space the closest er is back on earth and astronauts can039t exactly jump in a cab to get there so what happens if the sun burps out a massive blast of radiation while an astronaut is space-amblin039 bythe nasa biocapsulemade of carbon nanotubeswill be able to quotdiagnosequot and instantly treat an astronaut without him or her even knowing there039s something amiss it would be like having your own personal dr mccoyimplanted under your skin it represents one of the most significant breakthroughs in the history of medicine and yes it039ll work on earth tooout of all the amazing things we saw during our nasa visits nothing blew our minds as much as this tiny little bundle of carbon the space biosciences division at nasa ames creates medical technology for astronauts they essentially provide healthcare for outer space dr david loftus is the man who invented the nasa biocapsule and has been awarded a patent for itpicture this: an astronaut is going to mars the round-trip journey will take between two and three years during that time the astronaut will not have access to a doctor and there039s a lot that can go wrong with the human body in space so prior to launch the astronaut is implanted with a number of nasa biocapsules a very small incision is made in the astronaut039s skin for each biocapsule probably in the thigh which is implanted subcutaneously it039s outpatient surgery that requires only local anesthetic and a stitch or two to close the wound but after it039s complete the astronaut039s body is equipped to deal with a whole host of problems on its ownadg facebook: http:wwwfacebookcompagesalien-disclosure-group189249627773146follow adg on twitter: http:twittercomadg_uk |
