Bookmarked 751 weeks ago http:wwwgreenteamorgukthe green team is a natural resource conservation group based in the city of edinburgh scotland consisting entirely of volunteers who give up their time volunteering for the conservation and sustainability of our wild places in and around the lothians which includes the areas around edinburgh midlothian and east lothian the groups main body of volunteering is by young people aged 14-25 who come along on various day and weekend projects going green green to save the environment through volunteer work who learn about the natural heritage environmental issues as well as the importance of protecting our environment and recycling since 1995 a total of over 1700 young people have worked with the green team within the united kingdom improving their local area with one of the conservation organizations inviting conservation for kids where young people to carry out a community service for their area there are also offers of conservation jobs and conservation careers with the green teamthe green team wildlife conservation work projects are highly practical full of fun and teamwork conservation efforts aiming to teach environment protection don039t believe me then keep reading onthe day projects usually take place on a sunday where the participants arrive together carry out some ice breaking activities followed up by a tool talk and then travel via mini bus to a conservation site somewhere in the lothians in the past the green team has been to places such as vogrie country park the john muir country park and the water of leith the projects usually begin in the morning at 9:00am departing from new parliament house 5-7 regent road edinburgh and finish about 17:00pm where parents can collect their child or they can make their own way back home the environmental protection projects typically include activities such as nature walks bird watching learning to use tools in safety and using natural resources to create artwork learning how to live green joining the green team gives you the chance to gain some experience working with a conservation and environment organization meeting new people and above all to have fun each day costs 10 per person which also includes mini bus transport a a mug of hot chocolate and even some roasted marshmallows for the green conservative in addition to the day projects the green team also run green conservation weekend residential projects where volunteers stay in a hostel or temporary accommodation for the evening it039s a fantastic experience and speaking from my own personal experience it039s something that everyone should try going green once if not more the residential conservation programs are really good especially as they give a group longer time to bond and get to know one another they also improve teamwork skills through a variety of conservation tasks to save environment such as cutting back weeds planting trees building bird boxes repairing paths or cleaning up pondsif you are are a uk environmental conservationist you can also get involved with the green team as part of your duke of edinburgh award service section by volunteering to come along to a number of green team projects and also as part of your john muir award here039s how you can achieve your awards:gold -- 10 days over 10 monthssilver -- six days over 6 monthsbronze -- 4 days over 3 monthsthe green team now has a facebook page where you can get more involved in what the green team doeshttp:wwwfacebookcompagesedinburghthe-green-team-edinburgh-lothians212921491832 i produced this video for the green team in 2009 as part of my hnd in film and television production where i thought of many of the conservation groups who might be interested in having a promotional video for their website i had joined the green team myself in 2006 so had many prior experiences of volunteering with the team on their weekend and day projects i really enjoyed making this video as i had more creative control over the look of the final piece and because of it039s topic in the outdoors which is a passion of my ownalan taylor entered the film into the annual edinburgh cine and video society and won some awards for best overall film with the lizar039s trophy best use of editing with the reg carden scissors and also the bill walker trophy for best use of sound it039s also been shortlisted in the source magzine a young people039s magazine short film competition with the finalists announced at the glasgow film theatre in october 2010 remember to go green and keep up the conservation of resources keeping the planet green earth conservation work upscottish video produced by british filmmaker alan andrew taylor of willow creek pictures 2009 |
