Bookmarked 673 weeks ago http:wwwcovetedconsultantcomfree hi this is alzay calhoun with coveted consultantcom today i039m talking about the invisible systems that run your business to get us started i want to ask you a question do you believe in the system because there are tons of consultants that do and tons of consultants that don039t some consultants swear by systems and they believe that systems are required to make them a successful company if you do not have systems then you are on your way to failure however there are other consultants that believe that systems stifle creativity and you should avoid them at all cost so the question for you is which camp do you subscribe to i wanted to share that not only are systems mandatory but that there are invisible systems that are a silent threat to your business and here039s what i mean i believe that there is a system in place whether you realize it or not there is a process a method or a procedure that is working for you whether or not you can see it because you can039t see that process and therefor it039s invisible and you039re subject to whatever it creates for you so you have to take some time to dig into it and figure it out and sort it out so if that begins to make sense to you let me give you something to check to help you see if you have invisible systems so one example is if you039re getting the same core results over and over you know what you want and every time you try to get that thing done the result is substandard or subpar you have an invisible system you don039t really know how it gets done you just are subject to whatever it creates the second example is you don039t know how a certain result is achieved all you know is you press a button something pops out you send an e-mail and something pops out you ask an employee and something pops out but you really don039t know what the process is to get that end result done for you or have it provided to you that039s an invisible system another example is you only do a specific task when something breaks so you only work the process in response to something something happens and you scramble around to fix it and then at the last second or the last minute you end up in a rush to fix it that039s an invisible system you don039t really know what you039re doing you039re just scrambling around trying to solve it so these things because they039re invisible you can039t see them and because you can039t see them you can039t manage them and make sure that you039re getting the most out of them so what039s your challenge your challenge is to develop better systems so here039s something to think about first of all get a clear picture of what you really want you039ve got to be clear on the front end of what you want this process to kick out or spit out or provide on the back side second is you039ve got to create metrics you can believe in so the only way you know the system is working is if you can count it as it goes if you can measure everything up as it goes so however you believe you can measure that in your system be deliberate be sharp about what those methods are and count them so you can be sure that you039re getting the results that you want the third is commit to the process so it takes time to define any system invisible or not and if it039s invisible to you you might get a little frustrated on the front side because now you can finally see what you weren039t seeing before and it may bother you a little bit so commit to the process of refining that system and then fourth is get some help either internally from your existing employees to get their feedback from them or externally with a consultant or coach or some other friend or expert and see if they can help you point to pinpoint that invisible system and then refine it as you need to the major point here is that you do not want to be subject to a system that you can039t see you want to be able to see everything that039s going on in your business you want to be able to understand everything that039s going on your business so you can have the most control over how successful you039re going to be in your business so with that thanks for listening if you enjoyed this you039ll love our free gift found at covetedconsultantcomfree it reveals the essential blueprint for any successful consultant so for now go get your free gift and i039ll talk to you soon http:youtubelo22vbbbbzs |

Bookmarked 673 weeks ago http:wwwcovetedconsultantcomfree hi this is alzay calhoun with coveted consultant and today i039m talking about how to explain your services and we039re going to break it down like we039re talking to a five-year old now you probably have heard that analogy before but let039s spend some time with it and see what insight it really gives us so let039s start with the fact that we know that our client is distracted just like a five-year they039ve got a whole lot of things going on let039s acknowledge that they have their own priorities before you showed up all right so before they talked to you on the phone that day or before they met with you there were other things that were already important besides talking to you so you039ve got to make sure that you get their attention quickly whatever it is you have to say whatever that big benefit is whatever that big thing is that will keep them locked in on you bring that to the table first make sure you have their attention second is be brief right so you know you039re not going to have a lot of time to talk to them even if you have a full hour meeting you really are only going to have their attention for the first few minutes so make the most of that first few minutes be brief be strong be powerful get their attention quickly the next major point here is simplify the concept so like a five-year old the five-year old there are big words that a five-year old just can039t understand yet they haven039t learned them and their brain really can039t handle it yet and your clients are the same way right there are certain vocabulary that you know as an expert that you039ve mastered that maybe they039ve heard before but they haven039t mastered the same way so save on the fancy vocabulary and only communicate the essentials whatever they have to know in order to understand what you039re describing and what you039re explaining only give them that only tell them that also here is tell them how to begin so as you simplify the concept tell them how to begin help the clearly understand what the first couple of steps are and then tell them how this situation ends tell them what happens at the end so that that way they can clearly understand what they have to do to get started and then once they get started walk down the path they know what they get they know what they earn at the end of the story so simplify that concept tell them how to being and also tell them how it ends the next major point remember that the client has to make their own decision so just like a five-year old who doesn039t want to go somewhere they could be a beast to try to carry around they could be a heavy weight to try to manipulate right we don039t want to do that we want them to make their own decision so let039s help them do that do no force them don039t force that client to do anything that they don039t want to do do not beg them do not beg your client to do anything that they don039t want to do if they don039t see it in their best interest don039t over sell it be careful of yoru incentives just like a five-year old whatever you tell a five-year old you better own up on that if you promised ice cream fun times slides to go see a friend play some video games whatever you promised that five-year old you better keep the promise or you039re going to have pain at the end of the story same way with your clients whatever promise you make on the front end you better own up to that promise be careful of the incentives that you providealso don039t whine right if they say no then the answer is no if they say yes take the yes and keep moving but there039s no need to whine and provide all this additional information on why things are the way they are your client doesn039t care and that five-year old doesn039t care right if they say yes it039s yes if they say no it039s no and keep moving at some point simply stop asking the question so there039s always a place in the conversation where you understand if your client has interest or not or that five-year old has interest or not and once you have a sense of that stop talking there might be more to say but even if there is more to say that client or that five-year old has already decided http:youtubegaw5gcmpqkq |

Bookmarked 673 weeks ago http:wwwcovetedconsultantcomfree hey there this is alzay calhoun with coveted consultantcom and today i039m talking about what your real job is when you039re leading a consulting company so to set the right conversation let039s talk about what your job isn039t your job is not to be the face of the business you don039t have to put your name on every single product that goes out and every single white paper that goes out and every single business care that039s made and up on all the websites you don039t have to put your face on everything and that should not be your primary focus if you039re the leader of a consulting company it also your job also is not to be the know-it- all expert of your consulting company it isn039t your job to know everything it is extremely hard to know everything so if you put yourself in a situation where you position yourself as the single person who039s going to know and understand every single issue that your clients come across you039re setting yourself up for failure there will be something that you don039t039 know there will be a situation that039s a little bit bigger than you and all you039re doing is setting yourself up to disappoint your clients that039s not your core job that039s a job that you can effectively put down today third is you don039t have to be the core client romancer so yes you need clients and yes you have to interact with those clients and yes you should be seen as an ally to your clients but that is not only your job so you don039t have to attend all their sessions you don039t have to go to all the networking events you don039t have to attend every meeting and give every presentation that is not your core responsibility now as you step back from these responsibilities let me provide three others that i believe are foundational if you039re going to lead a consulting company in the right way the first is that you are responsible for recruiting and hiring you039ve got to make sure that you039ve got the right people in your organization who are attached to the right responsibilities you039ve got to assess someone for what they already bring to the table and you039ve got to make sure that what they have comes to you at a high level and you have something that matches what they are and who they are anyway you039ve got to be able to match the right people to the right responsibilities second is you039ve got to make sure that you039re putting quality inputs in your system so that you can get quality outputs out of your system and in that i039m talking about people so you have situations you have processes you have systems in yoru business that are supposed to create a certain output and so people need to come into your organization experience those systems and then leave and go interact with clients and interact with vendors and provide services at a high level if you don039t put in the right inputs then you039re going to end up with poor outputs and that039s gigo right classic garbage in garbage out and that039s not what you want so you039ve got to make sure that you039re picking the right people coming into your organization so that when they experience your organization and they step away from the office or step away from your organization they are providing a high level of service third here under recruiting is you039ve got to make sure at a basic level that you enjoy who you039re working with do you enjoy them and do they enjoy you and will they enjoy the culture that you039ve prepared in your organization if you don039t enjoy them and they do not enjoy you it doesn039t matter how talented that person is and that039s not something you can talk someone into it doesn039t fix itself later on it is better to hire for attitude and then train someone up from a skills perspective than it is to hire someone with skills and then try to convince them that you039ve got a healthy place for them to be from a culture perspective it039s the hardest work you039ll ever do and it039s not the right work you should be doing so make sure that you highlight yoru responsibility as it relates to recruiting and hiring so that you039ve got the right kind of a talent pool inside your organization the next major responsibility is you039ve got to be the core visionary so you have to make sure that you as the leader of the business are always owning and articulating the big picture there039s a place that your business is going in there039s certain kind of client you039re trying to reach and there039s a certain experience you want that client to have you039ve got to own that big picture and explain it to everybody else and if you aren039t focused on that at some point it loses its clarity and it039s hard to run a business when you039re unclear on where you039re headed so it039s yoru job to own and articulate the big picture http:youtubex6yjuvci1ac |

Bookmarked 673 weeks ago http:wwwcovetedconsultantcomfree hey there this is alzay calhoun with coveted consultantcom today i039m talking about some phantom problems these are three problems that you believe your consulting company has but it really doesn039t and i get this a lot from my clients is my clients come to me with a very specific understanding of their problem or what they think their problem is and they want a silver bullet magic solution to fix it let039s fix it right now so i can get back to running my business and i039m telling you that that039s not the truth the truth is the problem that039s really going on isn039t what you think it is and it may take a little longer than you think to get it solved so here are three classic examples i hope you find this helpful so here039s the first is i need a better time management solution so this is the person who is looking for a calendaring system a list management system an appointment scheduling system some new app some new website that will help manage their behavior and manage their time management and that039s not what you need so number one it039s not about time management it039s about priorities certain things are more important than others they have to be and if you believe that everything is important let me ask you how important to you is breathing what039s more important to you than breathing well then by definition everything is then after breathing so it039s second to breathing how important to you is eating okay so if breathing is first and eating is second then all this business stuff is third so if we keep thinking that way we look at your business certain things are like breathing to your business certain things are like eating to your business and then everything else is after that so once you set priorities then it039s easier to figure out where your time should be spent next here is it039s not about time management it039s about clarity so you039ve got to be clear about what039s important to your business and what isn039t that means you039ve got to separate some things separate some thoughts separate some ideas some separate some strategies and look at them honestly separately and figure out which one of these is important which one of these means the most to my business am i clear about what these different things are that039s about clarity it039s not about time management its039 about clarity third it039s not about time management it039s about panic so we all create these to do lists and some of us have really bad habits about these long to do lists and so our to do list intimidate us we see the long to do list that we039ve created for ourselves and it makes us panic it gives us anxiety it makes us stress and we have to flip that we have to be able to look at our to do list and not become intimidated by its length or what039s on it so as you develop the discipline to look at your to do list a different way then all of sudden you can manage your time differently without all of the scary uncomfortable emotions second major point my clients to me with a lot is i need cash now i need customers now i need money right the money conversation so i suggest to you that it039s not about the money for example you know you039re not going to get the money today so what are you going to do between today and whenever you actually get the money so let039s say it shows up in a month well what do you between now and then you just sit and twiddle yoru thumbs whatever goes on in that space has got to be something healthy what are those activities how do you know that the new money that you get is going to be spent any differently than the old money that you spent so if you know you made a mistake in the past with the money that you had how do you make better decisions going forward you039ve got to think hard about that again under i need cash now is how much money do you really need how many clients do you really need how many new engagements do you really need if you do need to borrow money from a bank how much do you really need is it 2000 20000 200000 how much do you really need and until you039re clear about your need then the money that you get has a much higher risk of being simply wasted and used for the wrong things http:youtube5357onzbyyw |
