sphero drives a car
Bookmarked 729 weeks ago a toy car powered and driven by a spherosphero driving a car yes pretty awesome rightin the video sphero commands the toy car where to drive it does this through a trackball similar to the one used in a computer mouse or in the arcade game of golf sphero sits on the trackball039s wheels and his weight and momentum cause them to move the wheels have encoders that then tell the car what direction sphero is moving by sending out x and y coordinates of the movement to the motors roll sphero forward and the car drives forward roll sphero to the right and the car turns to the rightsphero039s car was created by our junior developer skylar he got all of the electronics for the car from sparkfun this included a trackball an arduino board and an h-bridge the actual car was an old toy orbotix had bought for 10 it only took a handful of parts and a tiny bit of coding in arduino to make it happen sphero does the rest the really amazing thing is that we are using sphero039s brains and technology to create other robots |

Bookmarked 580 weeks ago the issue of how to use one robot in multiple terrains is an ongoing question in robotics research in a paper published in bioinspiration and biomimetics today a team from lis epfl and nccr robotics propose a new kind of flying robot that can also walk called the daler deployable air-land exploration robot the robot uses adaptive morphology inspired by the common vampire bat desmodus rotundus meaning that the wings have been actuated using a foldable skeleton mechanism covered with a soft fabric such that they can be used both as wings and as legs whegsit is hoped that a future application of the daler might be to find victims in dangerous areas after a natural disaster the daler can be remotely deployed to fly to an affected area and then can walk through a disaster zone eg a damaged building to locate victims meaning that human rescue teams can concentrate their efforts where they are needed rather than using time to search for victims in a dangerous environment future development of the daler will include the possibility to hover and to take off autonomously from the ground in order to allow the robot to return to the air and come back to base after the mission |

Bookmarked 763 weeks ago what do you get when you combine retro computer parts with an up and coming robot bandthe bit-52039sthis idea has been simmering in my mind for the last couple of years and after many months of procrastinating it is finally complete i was also motivated to finish my robot band after seeing a youtube video quotthe tronsquot from pieplateindustries in new zealand the bit-52039s consist of:male vocals - ti994a computer speech synthesizer and terminal emulator ii module back-up female vocals - two hp scanjet 3c scanners not printers ubunto and sjetplay written by nuganjatronthe guitar keyboard cow bell cymbal and tambourine are all controlled by various types of pushpull solenoinds for a total of 23 the solenoids are powered by four uln2803 darlington drivers and everything is controlled by two pic16f84a microcontrollerssome viewers have mentioned issues with respect to timing what they do not realize solenoids are mechanical devices and their performance are affected by many factors tempurature is a big factor the solenoids heat up very quickly and the magnetic field strength decreases which slows the response time and piston strength if you do not press down on the fret board hard enough the string will tend to waver causing it to sound out of tune all the solenoids were taken out of surplus junk equipment and each are being used for applications for which they weren039t designed for sure if you want to spend a 1000 you can get stronger and faster actuators so quit complaining and enjoy the video for which it was intended forto put a smile on your facejames |
