following an agreement with the israeli cabinet israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu has announced that tel aviv will release 104 prisoners who have been held in israeli jails since before the oslo agreement in an apparent attempt to restart direct talks with the palestinianshowever palestinian prisoner human rights groups believe that israel are giving empty promises as they are making each release contingent on negotiation process and they have already changed the terms of the agreement twice israeli authorities first said they will release the palestinian prisoners after 6 months but they shortly changed their mind and said the palestinian prisoners will be freed after 8 months saher frances from addameer lawyers says that israel has already played this game during the oslo peace process she says by pressurizing palestinians with the issue of prisoners during negotiations israel captured 1500 palestinians at the end of the process the israeli cabinet is divided over the decision right wing settler member danny danon says quote quotreleasing terrorists for peace is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline it is dangerous immoral and irresponsiblequot meanwhile the palestinians are worried that the major pre-conditions of the peace process are being sidelined with no mention of their major demands including the key issues of the establishment of a palestinian state based on 1967 borders and end of israeli settlement activities there is little trust amongst palestinians who state that israel has continuously promised to release prisoners since the oslo agreement and has failed to do so so far human rights groups are concerned that israel is playing an old game of holding a proverbial gun to the heads of the palestinian authority by releasing oslo prisoners in phases they fear tel aviv can go back on its promise at any time
