quotnow as he battles president obama for the white house mr romney is asking voters to condemn his rival for a health insurance mandate that is nearly identical to the one he championed in massachusetts in allying himself after a delay of several days with much of the rest of the republican party in labeling mr obama039s mandate a tax mr romney reduced the chances that he would anger conservatives but in effect he also asked voters to ignore his own recordquot the young turks host cenk uygur breaks it down including romney039s comments on supreme court justice john robertsread more here from michael d shear and ashley parker of the new york times: http:wwwnytimescom20120706uspoliticsin-defending-his-health-care-plan-romney-often-called-its-mandate-a-taxhtmlpagewanted=allsupport the young turks by subscribing http:bitlytytonyoutubelike us on facebook: http:wwwfbcomtytnationfollow us on twitter: http:twittercomtheyoungturksfind out how to watch the young turks on current by clicking here: http:wwwcurrentcomgettyt

stronger: fight for the health care law

for generations women have overcome obstacles exceeded expectations and fought for equality we fought discrimination in the health insurance market where women have been considered a pre-existing condition and denied health coverage due to a previous caesarean section or a history of domestic violence or rape we fought to end the discriminatory practice of insurance companies charging women more than men for health coverage simply because we are women and we won: the health care law finally ends these odious practices but opponents of the health care law are working to take our victories away we must stay vigilant to ensure these victories stay in place for generations to come get involved: http:wwwnwlcorgi-will-not-be-denied-protect-womens-health-care

if y039all come to get me - bring body bags

for a grim snapshot of america - check out the front page of today039s usa today there - you039ll see two stories - one above the fold - one below the fold - and both relate to the death of the american middle class first - there039s this story out of texas - where sheriff039s deputies are trying to figure out a way to end a stand-off that039s been going on for 12-years john joe gray - a self-identified quotsovereign citizenquot who believes the government has no legitimacy and thus no authority - has been holed up in a fortified compound in the woods daring police to come and arrest him on felony assault charges that are more than a decade old back in 2000 - gray wrote a letter to police reading quotif y039all come to get me bring body bagsquot police have resisted moving in on the compound - knowing that any attempt will certainly end in violence and deathfor john joe gray - and many other americans - the militia movement is their last refuge when they039ve given up on the american dream - and realize the united states is not a land of opportunity like it was before reaganomics took hold these americans - mostly men - watched their fathers and grandfathers come of age during the new deal era in america - when men were able to raise families on a single paycheck working in a factory they learned what it meant to be a breadwinner - to be a provider for their families and whether it039s politically correct or not - being the sole provider for the family - was an important part of what being a man was all about for most of american history - and still is for most men unfortunately today - with millions and millions of manufacturing jobs shipped overseas - and tens of thousands of factories that once supported these middle class breadwinners closed down - these men have lost their manhood

why ireland scrapped their voting machines

ireland decided this week to scrap their voting machines--like the ones here stored in dublin they039re selling them for scrap metal because they found they were too unreliable and too easy to hack they039d only used them once back in 2002 but that was enough unfortunately america hasn039t learned as quickly as the irish it used to be in america that exit polls were the gold standard to determine if there were shenanigans in an election for over a century we used them and we got very very good at it they almost never deviated by more than a few tenths of a point from the actual electoral outcome and when they did it was a sure sign of fraud such a sure sign that exit polls were used successfully to expose - and then overturn - fraudulent elections in ukraine serbia and georgia polling companies were really good at this and had great success in the election of 1998 when voting machines only recorded 7 percent of the national vote but in the elections of 2000 and 2002 something odd began to happen it was called quotred shiftquot because in certain states where there were a lot of voting machines being used republican candidates did better in the vote the machines reported than in the exit polls in the election of 2004 new york pennsylvania florida and ohio led the charge with a red shift toward george w bush of 276000 votes in new york 228000 in florida 190000 in pennsylvania 169000 in ohio it had started two years earlier in 2002 when voting machines began to appear everywhere across america because george w bush signed into effect a law called the help america vote act or hava that gave billions of dollars to the states so they could buy these machines from private corporations like diebold and esampamps it was the high water point of the privatization of our vote for two centuries our vote was counted by volunteers and government workers overseen by representatives of the political parties that all changed between 2000 and 2004 - now over 90 percent of our vote is recorded or counted in secret on corporate machines and those corporations tell us who one our elections why is it secret because the voting machine companies say they have copyright and trademark quotrightsquot to keep their software and hardware secret from us
why the media is not reporting the truth on fukushima

paul gunter beyond nuclear joins thom hartmann for the first time since before last year039s march earthquake and tsunami - a nuclear reactor in japan is up and running again despite 200000 protesters gathering last week in central tokyo to demonstrate against turning any nuclear reactors back on - reactor number three at the oil nuclear plant in the fukui prefecture in western japan was officially flipped on sunday night - restarting japan039s embrace of nuclear power many of the other 49 reactors that have been shut down since last year - are scheduled to be turned on again later this month but scientists are warning that the plants still haven039t been properly upgraded to withstand a strong earthquake and tsunami - like the one that took out the fukushima plant which is still in the midst of a nuclear crisis last week - record levels of radiation were discovered inside reactor one at the plant a lethal dose of more than 10000 millisieverts an hour was registered in the reactor - that039s ten times more radiation than in reactors two and three according to the operators of the plant - tepco - workers are unable to enter the site due to the high levels of radiation so is it really wise for japan to be restarting its nuclear plants while the country still tries to resolve the world039s worst nuclear disaster
