this is a live looping cover of john mayer039s new single quotnew lightquot loops are triggered automatically in ableton livethis song contains a lot of repetition which made it a great song for a live looping performance however part of what makes this song so fun to listen to is that there are breaks from that repetition throughout the arrangement this presented some challenges for live looping the most obvious challenge is when the song goes to the bridge at 2:15 and the chord progression changes this required me to make a very fast change from playing guitar to playing bassmaybe it039s because i haven039t been playing much jazz lately but in this cover i felt like sticking some classic jazz language into the guitar solo jazz lovers may recognize that my solo at 3:01 - 3:16 is actually a quote from charlie quotbirdquot parker039s iconic song quotkimquot here039s a video of grant stinnett jim stinnett and me playing that a few years ago: https:youtube5

this is a live looping cover of charlie puth and kehlani039s new single quotdone for mequot loops are triggered automatically in ableton livei had a lot of fun arranging this one i like how in the original charlie puth039s voice is frequently doubled in octaves so i experimented with that for example at the second chorus 1:47 i sang the lower octave live while the upper octave that i sang earlier is loopedthe keyboard sound for example at 0:04 was also fun to create it039s actually two midi instruments at once--a warm rhodes with autopan and a very punchy synth this gave me an ear-tickling rhodes sound with a very sharp attackthe layering of the guitar parts was fun to do as well from 1:12 to 1:43 this is a technique i use frequently to create rhythmic texturearranged recorded produced performed directed shot and edited by megear:1982 fender fullerton reissue jazz bass1997 gibson l-5 studio guitar solo at 2:04novation nocturn 49 keyboar
