transcript of gov christie039s 2009 campaign message on renewable energy:there039s no doubt that renewable energy is the future here in new jersey and there is really no better time than for us the begin the discussion of not only how it will lead us to energy independence but also how it will help create more good paying middle class jobs for new jerseyans it039s a change that president obama stands firmly behind i couldn039t agree moremost of the panels for solar energy and the turbines for wind energy are being manufactured in countries like germany and japan denmark and spain not only are they way ahead of the us in creating renewable energy -- they are way ahead us in creating the jobs that will go along with renewable energy we039ve seen other states make real strides by not just talking about making renewable energy a key part of their state039s energy plan and job growth plan but by actually doing something: in 2007 new tower blade turbine and assembly plants were announced for arkansas colorado iowa north carolina new york and oklahoma which is expected to create 6000 jobshere in new jersey unfortunately we039ve had leadership that likes to talk a lot about renewable energy but hasn039t done much of anything that039s why we are 43rd in the nation in the production of renewable energy that is simply not good enough it039s not meeting the president039s goals and it039s not meeting the needs of new jersey citizens that039s why i039m going to make renewable energy a key part of the christie administrationas governor i039m going to make the manufacture of wind and solar energy a key industry here in new jersey we will grow manufacturing jobs in wind and solar energy not only to reduce our dependence on foreign oil but also to make sure that we bring back to new jersey the good high-paying manufacturing jobs we lost during the corzine administration as governor i will be new jersey039s number one clean energy advocate i will personally go out and talk to each and every ceo of one of these renewable energy manufacturing companies to tell them why new jersey is the place where they should come to do their business we will establish a new program called choose new jersey energy this will be a campaign which will advertise new jersey039s skilled work force its cutting edge technological base its ports and its facilitiesnext we will establish a program called renew new jersey this will be a place where renewable energy will be encouraged to be manufactured and finally used we will provide either a 100 tax credit or a 100 credit for insurance premiums to any manufacturer of wind turbines or solar panels who wants to locate here in new jersey this will take away the current disincentives that the corzine administration has put into place with higher corporate business taxes which drive jobs from our state and prevent these manufacturers from coming to new jersey and making it their home that039s why in the first four years of a christie administration we are committed to a five to one ratio: five production jobs for every efficiency job in the renewable energy plan these will be the type of high-paying middle-class jobs that will sustain our citizens over the long haul we will require that any landfill that is regulated by the new jersey department of environmental protection - whether it039s an ongoing landfill or a closed one - make solar farms a new part of their landscape we039re going to encourage solar farms by making it a permitted land use all across new jerseyyet one of the things that really discourages the development of renewable energy businesses across new jersey is the uncertainty of town to town decisions on the use of solar farms so a christie administration will make sure that solar farms are a permitted use in each and every town lastly we should make sure that the farmland that we have preserved across new jersey -- farmland that we have paid for with your tax dollars -- is utilized not just for agriculture but also for growing and developing renewable energy that039s why in a christie administration we would set aside 20 of all farmland that has been preserved through state funds for solar farmsthis way we can use another asset in thousands of acres across new jersey while preserving their ability to be a farm and not not ever be developed we could also develop renewable energy on those same farmsgrowing new jersey039s fruits and vegetables and growing solar energy -- they should work together and in a christie administration they will
