Bookmarked 598 weeks ago target fixation is one of the main causes of single vehicle motorcycle crashes and fatalities among new riders in this video we039ll look at three examples of target fixation and then provide suggestions on how to avoid itwith special thanks to cody c for providing permission to use his video and car crash can man for making his video available under youtube creative commonsread the full article related to this video at : http:therideadvicecommotorcycle-target-fixation-understand-overcomewhen you target fixate you are likely to steer in the direction of what you are looking at ultimately causing an otherwise completely avoidable collisiona common and usually benign example is that of a pothole you see it ahead of you and what happens you keep looking at it and run right over it instead of making a slight course adjustment and missing it the phenomenon of target fixation usually occurs because of the following:we see the object or hazard too late and we dont think we have enough time to avoid it and hence lock on to it with our eyeswe panic and instead of reverting to training fixate on something we think we could possibly crash intostrangely there isn039t a great deal of scientific material on the psychology behind target fixation but its a very similar situation to when people freeze up when under pressure the only difference is that on a bike youre not standing still youre moving at a rapid pace with the risk of hitting something very very hardso how can you overcome it like almost everything practice will greatly reduce and hopefully even eliminate the risk of target fixation here are some practical ways to overcome it:1 look with your head not just your eyesif you merely looking with your eyes and not moving your head its possible youre just going with the flow and not actively thinking about riding by keeping your eyes as forward as possible and moving your head in the direction you want to look youre concentrating more and are therefore more actively engaged in your ride2actively scanby actively scanning with your eyes you minimise the amount of time you look at one particular object keep your eyes dancing around so to speak never let your eyes lock on something for too long that helps prevent you from focussing on an object in an emergency another way to put it is to look in the general direction of where youre travelling not a specific point3 talk to yourselfdoing this might make you look crazy but its actually a fantastic way to not only preventing target fixation but breaking out of it should actually happen by talking to yourself youre actively reminding yourself what you should be doingbegin by saying something like look as in look where you want to go when youre in a corner or push as in push the bars of the bike eventually you wont need to do this but youll have it in your mind so that if you do find yourself target fixating on something use that key word shout it to yourself and youll hopefully break the spell your mind has on you4 look through the cornerthis relates to 1 and 2 but is more broad and is a skill that you should use for riding anyway not just to avoid target fixation so often we look just in front of our bikes youll see hazards doing this but its generally too late to do anything about itby looking ahead and through corners and straights for that matter you give yourself plenty of time to not only avoid hazards but set up correct riding lines too look where you want to go not at what you want to avoid5 relaxwhen you tense up you tend to make errors your body clamps up both physically and mentally and you greatly increase the chances of doing the wrong thing of course learning to relax isnt always easy breathing exercises help and again talking to yourself telling yourself to relax can actually work it reminds you that your bike is far more capable than you give it credit for and it will make the turn if you ask it to |

Bookmarked 576 weeks ago take your pranking on april fools to the next level let039s get sneaky amp clever and really mess with our friends and family this april 1stjoin our mailing list for giveaways http:householdhackertvlisthere are the pranks we will be doing today:1 lets start with donuts get yourself a box of glazed donuts and spread them out on some paper take a damp paper towel and get the tops wet enough to be sticky after that grab some basic flour and sprinkle it all over the tops of the donuts they will look like delicious powdered donuts not all you have to do is offer one to a friend and let the dust fly2 do you know someone who likes washing their hands geez i hope so grab their bar of soap and cut out a block in the bottom of it make sure you keep the soap shavings on the side now grab some kool aid or any colorful drink powder and dump it in the gap carefully mold the soap shavings over the hole and form a good seal around the powder once its solid put it under the water and rub the soap until you get the surface nice and smooth like it was in the beginning after a few hand washes the thin layer will burst giving way to bloody murder3 grab a roommates shampoo bottle and get some syran wrap open up the cap and secure a small layer over the opening seal it back up and wait next time they go to use their shampoo nothing will come out even though the bottle might feel full4 alright its its chowder time some people love canned fruit snatch a can of theirs and flip it over to open it from the bottom then empty out the contents into a bowl to eat later now get another can of something they hate in this case clam chowder empty it into the fruit can and then bust out a bit of super glue put a seal around the the lid and secure it back into place when your victim goes into get their delicious peaches theyre going to find that they are chowda this world5 heres a fun but harmless prank to pull on your friends who often leave their phone laying around next time they go away for a bit and leave their phone near you get your hands on some rubber bands might want to plan ahead and have them on you now wrap their phone over and over and over until the entire thing is encapsulated by a rubber band force field next sneak off and call their phone now stay hidden and smirk with wicked satisfaction as they attempt to answer it6 time to get mayo-riffic get a hold of a friends hand lotion and empty it out completely into another container once empty grab a bottle of mayonnaise and carefully squirt or load it into the empty lotion bottle it doesnt need to be filled all the way but get enough in there to prevent suspicion when they go to use the lotion for whatever reason they get to celebrate cinco de mayo instead7 now what to do with that empty bottle of mayo hmmm in my case i got served with a dose of revenge grab the empty bottle and fill it up with vanilla pudding spooning it in shouldnt be a problem just take your time once full close it off and wait for your victim to make a sandwich after just one bite they will quickly realize something just isnt right ugh this was nasty8 and finally nothing is more juvenile and fun than the appearance of errant feces find a pay of white underwear no one needs anymore place it down on a counter and get yourself some chocolate syrup or pudding pop it open and spread it all over the garment rub it all together and take a look at your masterful creation mmmmmm now thats poopy take it into the bathroom and drop it on or around the toilet the next person to walk in might think twice this is also a great way to secure the bathroom all for yourself-social media-facebook: http:facebookcomdylanhackertwitter: http:twittercomhouseholdhacker |
