whale fall actively devoured by scavengers at davidson seamount nautilus live
Bookmarked 335 weeks ago during the final dive of this years nautilus expedition season our team discovered a whale fall while exploring davidson seamount off central californias coast with researchers from monterey bay national marine sanctuary the skeletal remains of the whale lying on its back are estimated to be 4-5 meters long the team is working to identify the species but it is confirmed to be a baleen whale as indicated by baleen remaining along the whales jawbones while evidence of whale falls have been observed to remain on the seafloor for several years this appears to be a relatively recent fall with baleen blubber and some internal organs remaining the site also exhibits an interesting mid-stage of ecological succession as both large scavengers like eel pouts are still stripping the skeleton of blubber and bone-eating osedax worms are starting to consume lipids fats from the bones other organisms seen onsite include crabs grenadier polychaetes and deep-sea octopus learn more about this expe |

Bookmarked 522 weeks ago soyuz tma-16m was launched successfully aboard a soyuz-fg rocket from the baikonur cosmodrome in kazakhstan at 19:42 utc on friday 27 march 2015 the spacecraft reached low earth orbit approximately nine minutes after lift-off after executing rendezvous maneuvers the soyuz docked with the upward-facing port of the international space station039s poisk module approximately six hours after launch at 01:33 utc on 28 march the docking occurred over colombiait transported three members of the expedition 43 which are scheduled to stay there until september it039s the 125th flight of a soyuz spacecraft the first having launched in 1967 the soyuz will most likely remain docked to the station for the expedition 44 increment to serve as an emergency escape vehicle until its scheduled departure in september 2015luckily they strapped what looks like a gopro in front of the window i039ve seen a webm on kc where someone used the interstellar soundtrack over the docking which i found very fittingi was unable to track down a high quality source which is why i039ve remade it in 1080p60 it039s taken directly from nasa039s channel sped up almost 10 times from 26 minutes down to 2:38i have not seen the movie from what i039ve seen the scene in which this soundtrack is used is rather goofy but hans zimmer is a magnificent composer and it fits really well |
