living with a raccoon: 1 year update
Bookmarked 394 weeks ago raccoons are great when they are babies but they don039t stay young for long they grow up fast and when they do they become very stubborn this is because they are preparing to leave there mom when they are out in the wild they are trying to figure things out for themselves because they will be on there own very soon even at the three month mark raccoons are definitely considered babies but this is when they start getting out of hand they like to do what they want and that usually means not doing what you want them to do it is very important that you cut out any unwanted behaviors at this time because they are still small and impressionable they won039t be for very long and if you let these behaviors go unchecked when they are full grown adults it will become a massive problem things that are cute when they are little such as ear biting isn039t as cute when they are adults they can easily bite through your ear lip or fingers raccoons are extremely strong animals so i |

my college had a problem with a funny shirt: qampa with isaac smith
Bookmarked 547 weeks ago meet isaac smith a graduate of ohio university ouwhen isaac was a student at ou he helped to lead the group students defending students sds an organization that provides free assistance to students accused of campus misconduct in order to interest other students sds made some eye-catching t-shirts emblazoned with the groups original slogan from the 1970s: we get you off for free but when the members of the group wore the shirts at a fall recruitment fair the dean of students told them that they should not wear the shirts because they were not professional and contained sexual innuendowhich was of course the point another administrator later justified the informal ban on the t-shirts because the shirts objectified women and promoted prostitutionodd charges for a gender-neutral phrase about a free service fearing punishment under the the student code of conduct which prohibited any act that degrades demeans or disgraces another student as well as taking any reckless but not accidental action from which mental or bodily harm could result to another person sds discontinued use of the t-shirts but isaac sensing that the administrations behavior was kinda bull reached out to fire fire worked with isaac and attorney bob corn-revere to file a first amendment lawsuit against ou as part of the july 1 2014 launch of our stand up for speech litigation campaignin february 2015 ou settled the suit agreeing to allow the t-shirts as well as revising the vague student code of conduct policy on mental or bodily harm to comply with the first amendment not to mention paying out 32000 for damages and legal fees isaacs advice to other students i would absolutely encourage students at other schools to take action if they feel that there is a problem with their speech code if they feel that its unconstitutional absolutely stand up and take actionfind out how you can challenge your speech codes at the 2015 fire student network conference july 2426 in philadelphia learn more about the conference here: https:wwwthefireorgstudent-networkconference |

building without nails the genius of japanese carpentry
Bookmarked 545 weeks ago we039ve heard of the genius quottechnologyquot used in ancient times to build towering monuments with nothing more than primitive tools like stones and ropes the egyptian pyramids of old is a great exampleback in the far east japan had plenty to offer the ancient world as well when it came to resourceful inventions and crafts traditional japanese carpenters built houses temples and castles without the use of nails screws or boltsin a documentary interviewing one of the few remaining practitioners of this seemingly lost art of carpentry an old japanese master craftsman exclaims quotno bolts no nails it lasts longerquot proudly claiming its effectiveness that no one would be able to argue against its success in the form of several majestic towering temples all over japan still standing to this dayafter being subjected to harsh weather and clashes of changes in civilizations for well over a thousand years but with the bold statement comes a clear understanding that the success to this art isn039t because they designed it to withstand quotagainstquot nature instead it is all about being quotwithquot naturemoving his livelihood to new york and sharing his art form of old japanese wood working to the world isao hanafusa co-owner of miya shoji has carved himself a unique niche in the competitive market of the furnishing industrysought out and revered by new yorkers wanting that embrace with nature in their interior decor with a style and durability in craftsmanship that can039t be rivaled by most factory produced alternativesall furniture selections in miya shoji showrooms are hand crafted even the types lumber used in all his crafts are hand selected by hanafusa himself isao hanafusa was a graduate of industrial revolution studies of which he states has produced countless wonders for the modern world but its cold machinery has also tragically killed off individual talent that is supposed to reside in craftsmento this day he rejects criticisms of his methods being unnecessarily old fashioned because with all the bold talk of technologically advanced tools and methods used in modern day construction work the hanafusa family believes a thousand years worth of talent refinement and mastery should not be thrown away in exchange for mass production conveniencenor is it going to back down from the contest that their crafts will last even longer than rigid concrete and metal structures for the simple fact they are not designed to resist against the force of mother nature but to live with her |

jorge ramos corners marco rubio - quot would you attend a gay wedding quot
Bookmarked 556 weeks ago one day after he confirmed to cnns jake tapper that he believes marriage should be between one man and one woman sen marco rubio r-fl went on jorge ramos fusion show where the host confronted him on the issue using a new angle if someone in your family or your office that happens to be gay and they invite you to their wedding would you go ramos asked the senatorif theres somebody that i love thats in my life i dont necessarily have to agree with their decisions or the decisions theyve made to continue to love them and participate in important events rubio said he compared it to attending second marriages which are not strictly allowed the catholic faithif its somebody in my life that i care for of course i would rubio reiterated on the question of attending gay weddings im not going to hurt them simply because i disagree with a choice theyve made or because i disagree with a decision theyve made or whatever it may beultimately if someone that you care for and is part of your family has decided to move in one direction or another or feels that way because of who they love you respect that because you love them he concluded again he compared the union of a same-sex couple to the divorce of a straight one if someone gets divorced im not going to stop loving them he saiddoes this mean he would respect the supposed decision of a loved one to marry their same-sex partner but not the millions of other lgbt americans he doesnt know one has to wonder: if there is a loved one in rubios life who is gay and might want to get married someday what must they think of his anti-gay marriage rhetoric |
