http:wwwi-am-an-exmormoncomhttp:wwwexmormonfoundationorghttp:wwwpostmormonorghttp:wwwexmormonredditcomhttp:wwwlifeaftermormonismnetwhen i was 19 i made one of the best decisions of my life and left the lds church i had finally accepted that the part of me that was attracted to women was a beautiful part of me and that i deserved an environment of respect and love although at the time i had hope the church would change it039s views and i could exist in their walls again some day i knew what would be best for me and that wasn039t to continue as an lds member when i was 20 my relationship with my girlfriend was suddenly revealed to several members of our very very mormon neighborhood including my girlfriend039s family the constant longstanding abuse and manipulation received at the hands of people that had been close to us in the recent past caused an enormous amount of stress to be put on me and on my girlfriend and although i recognized that the lds leaders were not directly to blame for the members039 bad behavior i wondered about the effect that the church had had on these members to have them act this way it hurt to watch my girlfriend a woman i deeply loved being so directly harmed by the community that had only a few months ago always had their arms open after finally moving away i welcomed a chance to heal-- but more changes were on the waysince i was a young child i039ve quietly thought of my self in male terms i never quite felt right in my female body or my life it was deep and intangible and i didn039t have the language to consider it consciously until i was almost 21 as a young child i thought i would and desperately hoped i would grow into a man i was a staunch feminist and did not necessarily mind being a woman if i was one but i would think about how much i wanted facial hair and to look like a man and to live as a man and how much i did not fit in i felt that this was how it was- i was born with a female body and that was it i had no clue that i would be able to better match my body to my brain my selfcontinuedto read the rest of jack039s story please visit the following link:http:wwwiamanexmormoncom201108my-name-is-jack-and-im-an-ex-mormon

here are a few kernels of truth wrapped liberally in extreme exaggeration i know it039s pretty over the top but so is the assertion that the bible is a holy book that039s a massive exaggeration most of it isn039t even quotpleasantquotthe bible is revolting it is sickening it is nowhere near as nice a book as what an ethical human could come up with so why on earth does it have this reputation as having been written by the very author of love itself it wasn039t it was written by human men - and pretty horrible men by the sounds of thingsand why is it that it only ever seems to be the ugly bits of the bible that are ever taken out of context why don039t we ever hear christians complaining of john 3:16 being taken out of context look i know it039s possible for things to be taken out of context creationists do it all the time and it bugs the hell out of scientists and rationalists even i039ve been quoted out of context sure it039s annoying but no context is large enough to write off some of the horrors of the bible i mean - is september 11 for example completely justified by recourse to a larger quotcontextquot no and neither are some of the horrors mentioned in the videoi had a conversation recently on youtube and we talked about stoning it occurred to me that as an atheist i will never ever be called upon to defend the appalling practice of stoning however a christian who believes that their heavenly father mandated stoning does have some kind of obligation to excuse those who practiced stoning and to even implicitly defend the practice seeing as it was yahweh039s favored punishment this is what039s wrong with christianity and yes i know that there is more to it than that but how warped are your morals compared to those of an atheist if the atheist can outright condemn practices such as stoning and burning alive but you can039t due to your apparent deep personal relationship with the supreme moral law giver of the universe you know that supreme moral law giver who said burning people alive was ok something is seriously wrong thereor come out and say that the old testament laws were absolutely hideous come and join the rest of us it039s far clearer over here no double-think come and live an ethical life based on what you truly believe about how best to live among others
